Pivotel Satellite Partner with Roobuck to win TDRI Grant 2024 for Satellite Connectivity
The Telecommunications Disaster Resilience Innovation, TDRI program promotes the development of new technologies to provide solutions for telecommunications disaster resilience, particularly in our regional, remote and First Nations communities. It forms part of the Australian Government’s Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia.
In 2024, Pivotel Satellite Pty Ltd received the TDRI in the Innovation Round in the Satellite Connectivity Stream. As the applicant, they have partnered with other companies including Roobuck, for the Rapidly Deployable Wide-Area Wi-Fi Network project with Independent Satellite and Power capability. This TDRI stream requests a “place-based solutions that involve the installation of long-range public Wi-Fi with satellite backhaul at emergency locations”. Therefore, Long-range Wi-Fi will be a key component of the solution.
Roobuck and University of Sydney as inventors of long-range Wi-Fi technology, will develop portable long-range Wi-Fi network, so it can be quickly deployed for emergency, and integrated with satellite system. This is a two-year $3.5 million project. Roobuck is confident to make our contribution to the project based on our IP protected long-range Wi-Fi technology and commercial design experience. The project kick-off meeting was held early April and Roobuck has started the prototype design.
